Tinubu Flies To France In New Presidential Plane
On Monday, President Tinubu flew from Abuja to Paris aboard the newly acquired Airbus A330, which has replaced the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) that was previously used during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
This update was provided by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in a statement to Channels Television.
The decision to purchase a new aircraft has sparked debate, with critics questioning the timing of the purchase given the current economic difficulties in Nigeria. The Senate has faced criticism for approving the expenditure on a new presidential jet, with some accusing it of ignoring the economic struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
According to Onanuga, the Nigerian Senate’s security and intelligence committee had recommended the replacement of the aging aircraft to reduce maintenance issues and lower operational costs. The Presidency confirmed that President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria after his visit to France.
