Shocking Incident: Okada Rider Rapes Passenger and Shaves Her Hair in Osun

Jacob Damilare, a commercial motorcyclist, has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command for sexually assaulting a female passenger at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, hired Damilare for a ride to Moro around 7:05 PM on July 26. During the journey, Damilare allegedly diverted into a bush near RCC Junction along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway, where he robbed her of her belongings, raped her, and shaved her pubic hair.

In an interview with PUNCH Metro, Damilare confessed to the crime. He claimed that the victim, a student of OAU, had responded rudely to his advances, prompting him to divert into the bush. He said, “I made a pass at her, but she was rude.

Her response led me to take her into the bush. I gave her two choices: have sex with me or give me money. She chose to have sex with me.”

Osun police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola detailed the incident during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Osogbo. She stated, “On July 26, 2024, at around 7:05 PM, the complainant engaged Damilare Jacob, a commercial motorcyclist, from OAU Campus to Moro town.

He then forcibly raped her, shaved her pubic hair, armpit hair, and head hair, and threatened to kill her if she reported the incident.

The victim was taken to a police hospital in Osogbo for treatment. Damilare has confessed to the crime and will face court proceedings once the investigation concludes.”

Also paraded were Mukaila Teslim (25), Bakare Azeez (26), and Ajibola Soliu (24), who were arrested for stealing $40,000, a plasma TV, a motorcycle, and three mobile phones from a workshop.

JUST-IN: FG Issues Fresh Clarification On Age Limit For WAEC, NECO Examinations

Federal Government Refutes Age Restrictions for NECO and WAEC Exams

The Federal Government has dismissed rumors suggesting that age restrictions apply to the National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams.

Dr. Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, clarified this in Abuja on Friday, affirming that there are no age limits for taking these exams. He explained that the age restriction applies only to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and university entry, which will start at 18 years beginning in 2025.

Sununu pointed out that the National Policy on Education specifies that children should start primary school at age six, spend six years there, and then proceed to three years each in junior and senior secondary schools, totaling 18 years.

His remarks came during a briefing for the 2024 World Literacy Day, themed “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace.”

Sununu addressed the confusion, stating, “We have clarified this issue in various forums, but the misinformation persists. Neither the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, nor I have announced any age limit for WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB exams.”

He added, “Some individuals have misinterpreted our comments regarding UTME age restrictions and mistakenly applied them to WAEC and NECO. Our previous statements only pertained to university entry age, as outlined in the National Policy on Education.”

Sununu also highlighted that the policy supports teaching children in their local language or mother tongue until primary three, after which English is introduced. This approach, he noted, facilitates better communication and learning.
