Peter Obi Appoints Dr. Yunusa Tanko as Interim National Coordinator for Obidient Movement

On Tuesday, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, appointed Dr. Yunusa Tanko as the Interim National Coordinator for his Obidient Movement worldwide.

Before this appointment, Tanko served as the spokesperson and media director for the now-defunct Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organization, representing the former Anambra State governor. In 2015, Tanko was the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and later became the presidential candidate for the National Conscience Party in 2019.

Obi announced the appointment during an X Space engagement, explaining that the decision to appoint Tanko was made after a consensus to zone the position to the North. He highlighted Tanko’s track record and leadership qualities as key factors in the decision.

“Last week, I held an X Space to kickstart a series of engagements aimed at establishing our structure. To drive this process, I assembled a team to manage these conversations. This team was tasked with holding a series of consultations and engagements,” Obi said.

He emphasized the importance of having leadership in place to support the ongoing process of building the movement. “After extensive consultations within the movement and reviewing feedback from Obidients through the ideas submitted, there was a consensus that the position of National Coordinator should be assigned to the North.”

Obi added, “From the nominations submitted by key stakeholders in the movement and shared with the engagement team, Dr. Tanko Yunusa emerged as the most nominated candidate for this role.”

Obi clarified that all appointments made at this stage are interim until the movement’s structure is fully developed. He urged supporters to be thoughtful in their nominations, as the movement has over one million leadership positions to fill, and it is crucial to onboard people with the competence, character, and capacity to lead.
