NLC Threatens Nationwide Strike if President Ajaero is Detained
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that they will stop work across the country if the police arrest their President, Comrade Joe Ajaero. This warning came on Tuesday morning after an emergency meeting at the NLC headquarters. The meeting was called after the police invited Ajaero over allegations of financing terrorism.
The NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) decided that Ajaero should respond to the police, but their lawyer will ask for more time before he goes. Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, the NLC Deputy President, asked workers to be ready for instructions if the police decide to detain Ajaero.
He stated, “We respect the law and will cooperate with the police, but we are requesting more time with the help of our lawyer. If the President is arrested, all workers will stop work immediately. Please stay alert for further instructions from our leaders.”
