On Monday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) confirmed that its president, Ajaero, had been invited by the police to answer questions about alleged offenses including “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, reasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”
The invitation letter, signed by ACP Adamu Mu’azu on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, was dated August 19, 2024.
In response, the NLC sent a letter to the police on Tuesday explaining why Ajaero could not attend the scheduled interrogation. The labour movement requested that the police reschedule the meeting to August 29.

Preemptively addressing the possibility of Ajaero’s detention, the NLC issued a statement after an emergency National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.
The communique directed all state chapters and affiliates of the NLC to prepare for an indefinite strike, set to begin at midnight, if Ajaero faces any form of incarceration.
