Kumuyi Calls for Unity Between Christians and Muslims for Nigeria’s Prosperity
Kumuyi Calls for Unity Between Christians and Muslims to Transform Nigeria
Pastor William Kumuyi, General Overseer of Deeper Life Christian Church, has urged both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria to set aside religious differences and work together for the nation’s progress. Speaking at the inauguration of the Change Makers International Conference in Akure, Ondo State, Kumuyi emphasized the need for followers of both religions to recognize their shared humanity and collaborate to build a stronger, better society.
The Change Makers International Conference, which Kumuyi founded, was previously launched in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. At the Akure event, represented by Pastor Jacob Asubiojo, the Ondo State Overseer of Deeper Life Bible Church, Kumuyi stressed that this initiative is more than just a meeting of like-minded individuals. It aims to highlight the necessity for Nigerians to unite in pursuit of common goals and a shared vision for progress.
Kumuyi articulated a transformative message, urging attendees to move beyond religious, denominational, and ethnic divisions. He said, “This is a paradigm shift from what we have known as Christians, Muslims, or followers of other faiths. We are called to see ourselves as one people created by God, committed to laying a solid foundation for a better society and world.”
He further described Change Makers International as a call to action, encouraging participants to join forces in addressing pressing issues and overcoming community challenges.
Kumuyi called for passionate and dedicated involvement, urging individuals to leverage their collective energy for innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. “Change begins with us—here, today, and now,” he said. “Let’s be the catalysts for a future where compassion triumphs, understanding bridges divides, and every voice is respected.”
Mr. Olayide Adelami, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ademola Falohun, echoed the need for collective effort among Nigerians to create a supportive environment for all. He emphasized the importance of unity in national development, saying, “Let’s unite, irrespective of our religion. This is crucial for our nation’s progress.”
Pastor Joshua Opayinka, Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Ondo State, praised Kumuyi’s initiative, noting its potential to foster love and unity among Nigerians. He expressed hope that the initiative would succeed in promoting greater societal harmony.
Alhaji Ahmed Aladesawe, Chairman of the League of Imams in the state, represented by Alhaji Bashir Moshood, also supported the call for unity. He highlighted the social, economic, and tribal challenges Nigeria faces due to disunity, urging a collective effort to overcome these issues. “Love your neighbor, regardless of religious background,” he advised. “A true believer must embrace love, fight against tribalism, and work towards national development.”

JUST-IN: FG Issues Fresh Clarification On Age Limit For WAEC, NECO Examinations
Federal Government Refutes Age Restrictions for NECO and WAEC Exams
The Federal Government has dismissed rumors suggesting that age restrictions apply to the National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams.
Dr. Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, clarified this in Abuja on Friday, affirming that there are no age limits for taking these exams. He explained that the age restriction applies only to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and university entry, which will start at 18 years beginning in 2025.
Sununu pointed out that the National Policy on Education specifies that children should start primary school at age six, spend six years there, and then proceed to three years each in junior and senior secondary schools, totaling 18 years.
His remarks came during a briefing for the 2024 World Literacy Day, themed “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace.”
Sununu addressed the confusion, stating, “We have clarified this issue in various forums, but the misinformation persists. Neither the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, nor I have announced any age limit for WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB exams.”
He added, “Some individuals have misinterpreted our comments regarding UTME age restrictions and mistakenly applied them to WAEC and NECO. Our previous statements only pertained to university entry age, as outlined in the National Policy on Education.”
Sununu also highlighted that the policy supports teaching children in their local language or mother tongue until primary three, after which English is introduced. This approach, he noted, facilitates better communication and learning.
