PDP Assistant Publicity Secretary Arrested for Alleged Illegal Firearm Possession

Amadein Tibiebi, the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Zone 16 for allegedly possessing firearms illegally.

According to PUNCH Metro, Tibiebi, a former militant, is currently undergoing interrogation and is being held at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Bayelsa State Police Command. This is due to the absence of a detention facility at Zone 16.

 

 

 

 

 

Tibiebi’s arrest on Tuesday is related to a 2021 incident involving Richard Okon, who was apprehended for illegal firearm possession at a wake-keep in Koluama community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. Okon had claimed in a confessional video that the firearm belonged to Tibiebi, although no further action was taken at that time.

A police source revealed that Tibiebi had previously been summoned by the police but allegedly provided fake licenses and forged documents, leading to his release due to his connections.

His recent arrest follows a new petition accusing him of threats to life. The source stated that Tibiebi had been boastful about his connections, showing no deterrence from the 2021 incident.

Another source at Zone 16 reported that Tibiebi attempted to avoid detention by calling influential figures, including senators and top law enforcement officers. “Tibiebi is under investigation for illegal firearm possession, which is a serious offense, but he has been using his connections to evade consequences,” the source said.

Tibiebi is the nephew and chief security officer of Cleopas Moses, a former PDP state chairman and representative for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the Ninth Senate.

A community source added that Tibiebi has been known for his arrogance about being untouchable due to his PDP and state government connections.

Zone 16 Public Relations Officer, Emonena Gunn, confirmed Tibiebi’s arrest on Wednesday and stated that the matter is under investigation, but did not provide additional details.
