Chelsea Completes Permanent Signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid
Chelsea has finalized the permanent transfer of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who spent part of the 2022/23 season on loan at Chelsea, returns to Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal reportedly worth £44.5 million.
Felix completed his medical examination on Tuesday and signed a seven-year contract, committing him to Chelsea until 2031. During the last season, Felix was on loan at Barcelona, where he scored ten goals and provided four assists across all competitions. His arrival at Chelsea has led to Conor Gallagher moving in the opposite direction.
Joao Felix becomes Chelsea’s tenth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Expressing his excitement about his return, Felix said, “This is an opportunity for me to find a permanent home. After two loans at Chelsea and Barcelona, I needed stability, and there’s no better place for me than Chelsea. I feel it’s the perfect environment to reach my full potential.”
Felix also noted how he has grown as a player since his first spell at Chelsea, stating, “I’ve learned a lot about the game and how to make a bigger impact. I’m more mature now, and I feel ready for the challenges of the Premier League. I’m confident my best years are ahead, and being back at Chelsea feels like coming home.”
Felix first made his mark at Benfica, where he scored 20 goals in 43 appearances during the 2018/19 season, which led to a £113 million move to Atletico Madrid in 2019. Now, Felix is eager to reignite his career with Chelsea and prove himself in the Premier League.
