BREAKING: Soldier Guns Down Police DPO At Military Checkpoint

Halliru Liman, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Wasagu Division in Kebbi State, has been tragically confirmed dead. According to Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Liman was fatally shot by a soldier at a checkpoint in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred as Liman was en route to Birnin Kebbi for a scheduled meeting. He was stopped by military personnel from Operation Dadarin Daji at the Danmarke area in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Despite identifying himself as a police officer, Liman was shot on the spot by the military personnel.

In a statement released on Thursday, the police command condemned the killing and called for a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“On August 28, 2024, at approximately 10:30 AM, SP Liman was brutally killed by military personnel led by one Hassan, attached to OPHD Sector 6 in the Dan Marke area of Bukkuyum, Zamfara State,” the statement read.

The command expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident, describing it as alarming and unacceptable. They emphasized that such actions are a clear violation of the rules of engagement and called for accountability to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The statement further highlighted the importance of cooperation between the police and the military, stressing that their roles should complement each other in maintaining peace and security, not result in violent confrontations that undermine public trust.
