Atiku Speaks On Economy Hardship— Says " I'm Not Bothered About 2027 Election But..."

Atiku Dismisses 2027 Election Concerns, Focuses on Current Hardship in Nigeria

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that he is not focused on the politics of the 2027 elections.

Speaking through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, in a statement on Thursday night, Atiku emphasized that his attention is on the current challenges facing Nigerians, particularly the hardship that has escalated since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023.

This response came after Bode George, the former deputy national chairman (south) of the PDP, suggested that Atiku should consider retiring from active politics and wait until 2031 if he still aims to run for the presidency.

In reaction to George’s remarks, Ibe clarified that Atiku’s primary concern is the ongoing struggles of Nigerians rather than the politics of future elections. “Atiku Abubakar’s preoccupation is not 2027. His concern is about 2024, 2025, 2026, and beyond,” Ibe stated.

He criticized the current administration for its “trial-and-error policies” that have intensified the suffering of Nigerians, calling it insensitive to discuss future elections amid the current crisis.

Ibe also urged Bode George to focus on advising President Tinubu to reconsider the policies that have deepened poverty and division in the country, instead of prioritizing the 2027 elections.
